Tottenham Manager Thomas Frank Calls Goalkeeper Critics 'Not True Genuine Supporters'

Fulham Begin Powerfully to Defeat Spurs and Raise Pressure on the Manager

Tottenham Hotspur fans who jeered goalkeeper Vicario were told later "they cannot be true Tottenham fans" by manager Thomas Frank.

Tottenham conceded a pair of scores in the first six minutes to lose 2-1 to their opponents, marking their 10th top-flight home loss of the year.

However the main talking point was the visitors' next score when the keeper gave away possession well outside his box.

He ventured out to deal with a long ball and took the ball near the touchline.

But, instead of booting it into touch, the Italian turned and tried to clear, but slipped as the ball glanced off Wilson and was collected by King.

The forward passed the ball off to Welsh midfield player Wilson, who bent a strike into the goal from the touchline recorded at thirty-six point six yards.

Seconds afterwards when the ball went to Vicario again, a number of Spurs supporters jeered him.

Spurs were jeered off at half-time, with the side 2-0 behind, and again at the final whistle.

One of those booing episodes truly irritated the manager.

"I heard a few of our fans reportedly booed the incident and booed following, which, in my opinion is completely unjustifiable," the Danish manager commented regarding the supporters' reaction to his goalkeeper.

"Those individuals can't be real Tottenham fans that act that way. Fair enough booing following the game, no problem, but when we are playing, we are backing one another, we are behind each other moving ahead."

Tete had given the visitors a early advantage prior to Wilson's strike – with Mohammed Kudus scoring for Tottenham in an better second period performance.

Ex- top-flight goalkeeper Hart remarked that the next score was "completely preventable".

"I certainly understand the fans' disappointment," Hart continued. "I know the part the keeper is performing. He is a excellent squad member, he's a true leader in the locker room but ultimately you are going to be judged by your actions.

"He was deeply implicated in what ended up to be the winning goal."

'It is Part of Football, I Can Handle It'

Thomas Frank Stood Up For His Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario Following the Match

Italy international the keeper is in his 3rd campaign with Spurs.

The 29-year-old stated following the match that he had to accept the feedback.

"The second score was a error of my own, I accept accountability for it," he commented.

"The intent was to kick the ball far and I simply struck the ball in a poor manner. That made an more difficult mountain to overcome."

He said receiving jeers "comes with the game".

"I'm a big man, how can I respond?" he continued. "We can't be influenced by the situation in the stands. Supporters have the right to do what they think.

"It's on the team to remain more calm, to concentrate on ourselves. The team is lacking in calmness and poise to overturn results. Today is a poor defeat and it is tough to accept."

'It Shocked Me No One Went Back to the Goal Line'

In spite of Vicario's mistake, it was far from an easy score for Harry Wilson to score.

In fact it was the next longest-range Premier League score of the campaign – following Tyler Adams' forty-three point three yard strike for Bournemouth against the Black Cats, which interestingly too occurred on Saturday.

Wilson said he was "a little bit surprised" that he still had an open goal to aim for.

Ten moments passed between the keeper coming out of his area and Wilson striking – which was five seconds following the kick.

"I felt like the keeper was away from the area for ages," Wilson said.

"It amazed me not one of the back four went back to the goal line. When none of them covered the goal, my eyes sparked somewhat.

"Udogie fell as well, which allowed me a little extra opportunity. After that it was all about trying to achieve the right connection and get it on target. I had a good feeling, the moment it left my boot, that it was on the right line."

'During in a Bad Spell, All Seems to Go Against You'

Booing While We Are Still in Play Is Completely Unacceptable - Frank

While the keeper's mistake led coverage, this was an overall poor day for Spurs to continue their home ground struggles.

The match was their tenth home loss of 2025 in the league, a joint team record matching 1994 and two thousand and three.

They still have home fixtures against the manager's old side the Bees and title holders the Reds to come prior to the end of the year.

Only one of those victories have come since the manager replaced Ange Postecoglou in the off-season.

"If you are down 2-0 following six minutes, there is a huge challenge to overcome," said Frank.

"When you're in a bad spell, all aspects appears to go against you as well – the opening was a redirected attempt, the second is a mistake from the keeper.

"The outcome puts us in a place where we have lost an additional match. Each fixture has a single narrative, this game we were defeated in the early stages.

"We just need to keep working. The second half was much better and hopefully an aspect we can use to develop."

Tottenham have been defeated in 4 straight at home capital clashes for the first time in the top division.

And they are recording 9.5 shots and 3.2 efforts on goal per match in the division – their lowest averages on record in a single campaign (since at least the 2003-04 season).

Former Fulham midfielder Murphy stated that the manager has to ride the storm.

"He must accept the stick," Murphy said. "He has taken a prestigious job at a major football club with massive expectation. There is scrutiny and responsibility that accompanies that.

"The performances at their stadium have been poor and they have to improve {quickly|
