Citizens have gathered around the country to remember the second anniversary since the Hamas-initiated offensive on 7 October 2023, as negotiations proceeded in Egypt over a resolution to the conflict in the Gaza Strip.

The attack led to over 1,200 people dead and 251 others taken away to Gaza as prisoners. It was the uniquely deadliest day for Jews since the Holocaust.

Israel answered by initiating a military offensive in Gaza which has killed more than 67,000 people, based on figures from the territory's Hamas-administered health ministry. Its figures are regarded as trustworthy by the UN and other global organizations.

"The violent adversaries have struck forcefully, but they have not overcome us," Benjamin Netanyahu stated on that day.

He also vowed to "accomplish all the objectives of the war: the release of all the captured, the destruction of the Hamas government and the promise that Gaza will not present a risk to Israel".

Remembrance Gatherings Across Israel

The government authorities delayed official memorials until 16 October - after the end of the religious holiday season - but ceremonies still were held across the country on that day.

A remembrance service for the relatives of Israelis who died in the Hamas incident was organized in the coastal city. Organized by the victims' relatives, it was broadcast across Israeli broadcast stations.

Some time earlier, a silent tribute was respected across the country.

Peace Meetings in Egypt

At the same time, Israeli and Hamas delegations gathered in the North African tourist destination of Sharm el-Sheikh for a follow-up session of third-party negotiations to examine the provisions of the proposal.

A prominent delegate knowledgeable about the talks indicated that an night meeting of negotiations commenced at 7 PM local time.

The official said the earlier meeting concluded without tangible results, because of differences over the recommended Israeli retreat arrangements from Gaza and over guarantees Hamas wants to make certain Israel does not recommence fighting after the first phase of the agreement.

He noted that the discussions are "tough and have not yet deliver any major advancement," but mentioned that facilitators are working hard to narrow the disparities between the conflicting groups.

Key Issues in Negotiations

  • A permanent ceasefire
  • The exchange of the prisoners still detained by Hamas for detainees from Gaza
  • The withdrawal of military personnel from Gaza
  • Plans for relief supplies deliveries
  • Future management of the territory

Citizen Feeling

In the city's Hostages Square previously, 29-year-old Hagar - whose brother endured the incident on the gathering, where many attendees were killed and many more were taken hostage by Hamas gunmen - explained: "No location appears as home any longer and until every captive come back no one will have peace of mind."

"Once we see everybody home returned, we can relax once more. Then we can commence heal," she added.

Near the prime minister's residence in the capital, people congregated to show their support for the relatives of the captives. Israel states forty-eight remain in confinement in Gaza, twenty of whom are thought to be living.

Activist a participant remarked: "We need do any agreement necessary for the hostages to be released. But we sincerely need guarantees that we will be protected."

Research now regularly indicate that approximately seventy percent of Israeli citizens prefer the war to end in return for the liberation of the abducted.

Palestinian Circumstances

At the area of the music event, mourners gathered to honor the dead.

From there, the boom of military attacks and explosions could be heard just a short distance away in Gaza, where observers reported the heavy Israeli shelling continued.

In the urban center, bombardments were reported in the morning of that day in the western district, sector and locality districts and in the east side area of Sheikh Radwan, as well the camp to the north-west.

"Once the dusk falls, the fear comes with it," evacuated urban resident Emaan al-Wahidi, whose young son was lost his life by an Israeli air strike previously, explained.

"My family are terrified of the bombings. During nighttime we are lying together, embracing, especially my little child who places his face on me the entire evening."

"Continuously we monitor the reports to see what happened. And I'm afraid that this truce will not be finalized and that the conflict will come back to us."

Health Emergency

The medical facility in the urban area announced it had taken in the corpses of several people by the midday, including several who died in an Israeli bombing in the south part al-Sabra neighbourhood.

A different healthcare center in the southern urban center of the city reported another two fatalities had been transported. An individual was died by Israeli soldiers while attempting to get aid to the south region, medics reported.

The region's health ministry announced a significant number of the {territ
