Slot Asserts He Is Secure and Retains Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Humiliation
Arne Slot acknowledged that it's natural for concerns to be asked about his future following another convincing loss against PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds endured their 9th loss in 12 games, marking the team's worst streak after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Dutch league champions on a difficult evening at Anfield.
“I feel secure, I am OK, I have got plenty of support from management,” Slot remarked.
“It would be nice to reverse this trend and secure a win of course but if you are coaching a team and struggling then it is normal that people question you.”
He continued, “I am OK with my situation. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a tough spot but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”
Conversations with The Board
When asked to elaborate on his discussions with the club's leadership, Slot explained:
“We communicate frequently. They assist to the team and to me and we have those conversations but they don’t call me all the time of the day to say they trust me.”
He further stated, “Through standard conversations we have I perceive the confidence. But I've not talked to them after this game yet so let’s see.”
Persistent Failings and Squad Response
Slot expressed regret over familiar failings from his Liverpool side in their Champions League defeat, namely missed opportunities and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more forthright in his view of the team's situation.
“I don’t have the solutions. Frankly, I do not. I'm telling that to everyone,” Jones said.
“It's simply not good enough. I don't have to wait to consider it. I'm beyond getting mad inside. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He continued, “It's tough because I’m playing for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I've watched this club all my life.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Reds side enduring a phase such as this with outcomes so bad.”
Jones concluded, “But we still have the emblem on our shirts. And until that badge is removed, we’re always going to compete.”
“Our aim is to bring this squad back to its rightful place, show everyone again what this club is about and why it's known as the best team in the world.”
“However currently, we’re in the shit and it must improve.”
