Battlefield 6's Relaxed Playlist Ignites Heated Debates Over Bots, Experience Points, and Queue Times

Over the weekend, the game developers introduced a new playlist titled Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option resembles the regular Breakthrough setup but features several notable adjustments:

  • Each team includes just 8 human participants, with the remaining filled by 32 bots.
  • Actions done by human gamers award full XP, while AI activities offer lower rewards.
  • Just a pair of locations are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
  • Elements like Player tags, achievements, and stat tracking are disabled.

So essentially, this mode lives up to its name: it offers a casual version of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think it's a good idea, as it gives more options for gamers looking for alternative ways to enjoy the game. But, gaming history have taught us anything, it is that not everyone will be happy. In other words, many BF6 fans are upset.

Player Responses: Anger to Support

"People want human opponents. Avoid making the mistakes of your competitors," reads a response to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing idea," says another. At the same time, in community forums, one user remarks, "I have no idea where we are headed with this title," and another lists all the issues they consider to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this bot mode."

On the other hand, for every complaint, there are players sharing how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's very fun to practice, real players prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," reads one Reddit comment. "The community fails to see that there are gamers who have lives and can't play this title all the time. Allow them to find a middle ground," adds another. One reply on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is great for me," while someone else applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Valid Criticisms and Player Input

Despite the support, there are constructive reasons to complain about the new mode. A few folks have highlighted that it will make wait times more extended for other modes because of the sheer number of options in the game already. On a similar note, certain regions already encounter mostly bots in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a required amount of human gamers, despite it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.

Lastly, a major grievances is that Battlefield Portal was meant to provide complete rewards, including AI matches, but that was removed when they attempted to eliminate XP farming from the mode. So this new playlist seems like the player base meeting them in the middle, as per forum feedback. Another labels this addition as the developers "making a mistake so hard, I experienced great enjoyment in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to change it?"

Future Prospects: Adjustments Be Made?

If the development team has demonstrated something so far with Battlefield 6, it's that they're paying attention and acting on feedback. Tasks being too difficult were adjusted rapidly, just like the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, if their data indicates this recent mode is underperforming to their standards, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
